In Spring 2016 a team of scientists from the “Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems and Forest Products Technology” visited Patmos for surveillance at the site of Kouma.

  • The “Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems and Forest Products Technology” or “Forest Research Institute of Athens” (FRIA) is one of the oldest research institutes in Greece. It was established in Athens, Greece, in 1929 as the research arm of the Greek Forest Service. More info on FRIA can be found –> here.

Along with the surveilance the team contracted soil analysis and listing of native trees. In Autumn 2016 they delivered to Community of Trees the fruits of their work in an elaborated pre-study which constitutes a very important basis for the Koumas Project. This study can be found –> here (in Greek language).
